Bushcare next Sunday 13th April. Please come along to find out more ways you can get involved. -

Next working bee

Sunday 13 April 2025 (8.00am to 9.30am)

Activities: weeding, plant identification, site planning discussions and morning tea

Please note: Now we are moving out of summer, the start time has been changed back to 8am.

Site update

Our project site has survived the weather events in pretty good shape. Most of the plants are still alive with some looking a bit worse for wear and a couple which have thrived in the conditions. Next Sunday’s tasks will revolve around maintenance of the area we have already worked and making plans for what we want to do next with the site.

The photo on the left below shows how the Lomandra has bent but not broken when submerged by the flooding creek and the importance of natives. On the right is about 20 metres upstream from our project site where a large tree (not yet identified) has had its roots undermined by the action of water, fallen and caused bank erosion.

Learning opportunity

A Botany for Beginners Workshop is being held on Sunday 18 May, 9am to 12noon at the Kenmore library. It is aimed at Habitat Brisbane and Catchment Group volunteers with no prior botanical knowlege. This is a free event but bookings are required via Evenbrite as numbers are limited. Please contact me if you are interested and I will email you the link.

Safety message

We have received a safety bulletin produced by the Rural Fire Services Qld regarding the risks involved with mosquito borne diseases. This is a timely reminder to spray with mosquito repellent and cover up when in Bushcare.

If birds are your thing …

Our BCC Catchment Officer advises there is a citizen science innovation with new technology (Birdweather PUC) being used by our Land For Wildlife partners to identify bird calls remotely. Here’s some information.
