The group is approved!
The group’s designated Brisbane City Council Creek Catchment Officer, Wesley DeMuth, has confirmed the group is approved. It has been formed as part of North Brisbane Catchments and we have added support from the ACF Community Brisbane Northside.
The approved site is an important corridor linking Clarrie Beckingham Reserve and Dawn Road Reserve.
Naming the group
We’ve been using “Wendon Way Bushcare” as the group name but this is open to change. If you have any thoughts on this please drop a comment via the button below.
A big thank you
There are quite a few things that need to happen to set up one of these groups, so a big thank you to
Wesley for the amount of time he has devoted and his friendly, no-worries attitude
Gayle, Ken, Tony and Rob for their encouragement and knowledge-sharing
Most importantly, everyone from the community who have shown enthusiasm and support.
Stay tuned
An induction for the group leader along with receiving a first aid kit and some basic tools swill happen shortly. After that we can sort out a date and time to get going!
In other news …
We had two events on Friday 13th September
Walk and Talk with Wesley
Thanks to Steve, Tony, Robyn, Maria, Gayle, David and Rob for finding time on a Friday afternoon to join Wesley (BCC Creek Catchment Officer) and his colleague Cerae (BCC Environment Centres) for a walk and talk.
We did a deep dive (literally) into the southwestern boundary of the park and discovered some great native fauna and flora along with a reasonable amount of vegetation considered weed. We continued back towards the playground and viewed a site where we discussed the potential for our starting project and then completed our chat with afternoon tea at the shelter.
Walk and Talk with Dr. Tam
What a great turnout to meet Dr Tamielle Brunt and learn about platypuses. I believe there were around 40 people registered for this event. We were lucky enough to have several views of one platypus swimming on the Parkview Park side between the road and footbridge in the late afternoon.
You may have noticed signage at the bridge that details how you can document sightings for the ACF platy-project. You’ll help researchers understand more about this elusive animal, and how we can better protect it.
